Updates and News from the Saituni Fund
Newsletter for the friends of the Ringa School and Orphanage
Dear Friends of Ringa School
Recently I spent a whole week in the region checking out transport links and hotel accommodation. First a breakdown of what your donations have achieved so far. There are now five brick built classrooms housing 200 children. There are ten teachers in total and four ancillary staff.
The bore hole that provides their water is complete and hopefully will see them through the dry season. It was a joy to see the fields that we rented producing crops. We now have two acres of maize and two acres of beans. We are now heading for self-sufficiency in the feeding programme for the children. We also have one milk cow.
While I was there I made a short video that turned into a long video so needs some serious editing. I will then send you each a copy. For those of you who sponsor a child, I now have their names, ages and picture. This you will receive in the post.
Transport and accommodation. The school is approximately 70 km from the nearest aprport which is Kisumu on Lake Victoria and there is a good tarmac road into the region. As for the hotel accommodation, there is a hotel which I stayed at in a place called Iyugis - approximately 20 km from the school. Good by African standards but poor by any other. I think the best place to stay would be in Kisumu where accommodation standards are much higher.
Once you have seen the video of the children and their school, let me know if you would like to visit so that I can organise the next trip. On the video you will see some children with a skin disorder. The medication for this has been supplied and the affected children are now in recovery. Thanks for your generosity.
Risper Saituni and her staff are so grateful for your support. They realise that your support is vital to these childrens' education. It is their only way out of poverty. Many, many thanks to you all.
With hope for the future.
Yours sincerely
Chris Hirst
